| The Alhóndiga de Granaditas was the site of the first major victory in Mexico's independence war with Spain. It was used as a grain storehouse after being built in 1798. Later it was a fortress for the Spanish during the early years of the war. The leaders of the Mexican rebellion were eventually caught and killed. Their heads were hung from hooks for ten years high in the corners of this building. Today, it serves as a museum. |
