| The Ex-Hacienda San Gabriel de Barrera lies just outside the city center.
It was built in the 17th century and was the grand hacienda of Captain
Gabriel de Barrera. It was once devoted to processing ore from the very
rich La Valenciana mine and is now restored and a museum filled with period
furniture and art. The La Valenciana mine produced 20% of the world's
silver at its height. An active art conservation project is underway and
we visited with several technicians and the conservator, watching them
work and asking many questions. |
