Seemingly isolated from the rest of Guatemala are the narrow streets of Chichicastenango. Masheños (citizens of Chichicastenango) are famous for their adherence to pre-Christian religious beliefs and ceremonies which can been seen around the church. On Sunday and Thursday, the giant trading market opens where fantastic weavings are displayed.
