| Papa John makes fishing lures
by smoothing and polishing a shell collected from the lagoon. He cuts
the lure from the shell and polishes it slowly against a wet stone. The
hook is also made from polished shell. He carefully ties the hook on with
twine. We sat with him during the late afternoon and talked as he worked
on his lures. He ended up making one special for us. He fishes using these
lures, but we definately won't. We tend to lose most of our fishing gear,
so we aren't going to take a risk with this beautiful work of art. |
